Here is a list of 12 unique things to do while in the capital of France.
Dance on the banks of Saint-Bernard Port.
Usually, from June to August, you can find many people dancing along the Seine River. There are often many different types of dance style happening all at the same time; including tango, salsa, break-dancing, and simple head-bopping for the less experienced. This is a definite recommendation for a fun late-night adventure on a beautiful summer night.
Explore the Streets of Montmartre behind Sacré-Cœur Church.
My favourite place in all of Paris! Behind Sacré-Cœur Church is a beautiful art district with amazing cafes, restaurants, and talented artists of all sorts. I honestly spent multiple days here throughout my month long stay in Paris enjoying the spectacular atmosphere. Such an amazing Parisian spot!
Enjoy a weekend morning at the St. Ouen Flea Market.
A perfect spot on a Saturday or Sunday morning! There are endless clothing, jewellery, and food stalls that go on for blocks! Truthfully, you could probably spend about 5 hours just walking around and still not see everything that the St. Ouen flea market has to offer.
Discover the Catacombs of Paris.
When entering the Catacombs you are immersed with a sense of surrealism. The endless rows and columns of human skulls and bones offer one of the most interesting and eerie spots I have experienced while travelling throughout Europe.
The Catacombs were on strike while I was in Paris, but I was very fortunate and was able to get visit the tombs after waiting in a line for almost 3 hours. The wait was long, but completely worth it!
Walk through the flower Markets near Notre Dame Cathedral.
You might not believe it, but I actually forgot that the flower markets near the Notre Dame existed. It wasn’t until I was walking around the Île de la Cité that I rediscovered the markets. There are so many neat trinkets, flowers, pots, and figurines that you can purchase from the shop owners inside.
They are open every day (except Mondays) from 8:00 am to 7:30 pm.
Attend an art class in Paris.
I 100% recommend taking an art class while in Paris, France. It’s not only fun, but the artwork is a great little souvenir to bring home once you’re done your travels. I took a painting class just outside of Paris and now have a beautiful painting to remember my time in this wonderful city.
Visit the Mona Lisa for free.
One of the first things you think of when someone says “Paris” is the Mona Lisa inside of the Louvre Museum. Personally, it was an amazing experience to view the Mona Lisa and all the other amazing artworks that are stored in the Louvre; especially being able to see them all for free!
When is the Louvre free?
- All visitors on the first Sunday of the month from October to March
- July 14 (Bastille Day)
- All visitors under the age of 18 and 18-25 year-old residents of the European Economic Area (EU, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein)
- Every Friday from 6-9:45 pm for anyone under the age of 26 (Make sure to bring official ID)
Explore the Gardens of Versailles.
If you plan to go inside Versailles, please buy your tickets in advance or show up very early. The lines to get in are crazy long!
If you don’t care too much about going inside, walk down the hill to the right of the palace until you reach Rue de la Paroisse. The Tabac store (Inside La Civette Du Parc) on the corner will sell you an entrance ticket into the gardens for around 10 euros. Then, walk down Rue de la Paroisse (turn left off of Rue des Réservoirs) until you reach the gates at the end of the street. Here they will scan your ticket and you will be granted access to the main gardens of Versailles.
The best part about this side entrance is that there will most likely be no line-ups to get inside. When I was at the entrance there was nobody there! This was especially amazing due to the fact that there was a three hundred person line-up at the front entrance of the palace.
Enjoy the bar scene in Paris. Find a rooftop bar!
Take advantage of the spectacular views of Paris; especially at night. Search up some awesome roof-top bars and spend a night above Paris. My favorite roof-top bar was Le Perchoir du Marais (The Marsh Perch) in the 4th district of Paris. It had an amazing view of the Eiffel Tower, Seine River, town hall across the street, and the rest of Paris. I definitely recommend for anyone who is looking for a night of drinking!
Take the perfect Instagram picture on Crémieux street.
Close to the Place de la Bastille, Rue Crémieux is a colourful little street perfect for Instagram-worthy photos and photo shoots! A fun little activity for any Instagram-lover.
Take a river cruise down the Seine river.
Although this might not be the most unique thing on this list, taking a cruise down the Seine River was one of my most favourite memories while in Paris.
My friend and I took a cruise from the Eiffel Tower to the Notre Dame Cathedral during sunset and we were able to get the prettiest night shots while on the river.
We then went to the Trocadéro Fountain, found a perfect place to sit, and watched the Eiffel tower light-up the night sky. If you are in Paris, please watch the Eiffel tower light-up at least once. A beautiful experience that you could never replace!
Enjoy a cooking class in the heart of Paris.
If you have the chance, take a cooking class in Paris as it is the perfect city to explore amazing cuisine! There are so many kinds of foods you could make; crêpes, ratatouille, galettes, macarons, and more. I did an Airbnb experience with Les Amies and we made delicious crêpes and galettes! If you have the chance, I totally recommend taking their class! Such a fun experience with some amazing ladies!
