I’ve scoured the internet and found the most unique and engaging French course for you! Created by YouTuber Damon Dominique, the course incorporates pop-culture references, everyday slang words, interactive video lessons, and real-life scenarios.
Who is Damon Dominique?
Damon Dominique, an American YouTuber, is a globetrotter and a language enthusiast. Recognizing the need for accessible and engaging language learning resources, Damon created his online French course to teach French learners about the ways of French life beyond simple grammar and conjugation.
Teaching Style of Damon Dominique
Imagine cozying up on a big, comfy orange couch, sipping your favourite French wine, and immersing yourself in the French language with Damon as your guide. That’s right – Damon’s teaching style is not only relaxed and approachable, but also incredibly effective. Did I mention that Damon is also incredibly funny, witty, and charming? His personality is very infectious and immediately draws you into his flavourful French world.
He expertly keeps you engaged and motivated throughout your entire language-learning journey. From ordering a baguette at the boulangerie to discussing existentialism over a glass of Bordeaux, Damon’s teaching style bridges the gap between textbooks and real-world communication.

Damon’s course isn’t just about grammar and vocabulary. It’s an experience that delves into the cultural nuances of the French language. I genuinely appreciate the time and care Damon takes when teaching about modern-day French slang as this will be truly beneficial when visiting or living in France. Did you know that many common French words are spoken in reverse? This is known as Verlan, which is a language within a language. You take the end of the word and put it at the beginning, much like Pig Latin.
For example, some people use céfran instead of français or tromé instead of métro in spoken French.
Throughout the course, when you see “La Culture”, Damon will teach you different cultural aspects of the French language or culture.

Damon has designed this course to be accessible to learners of all levels. Whether you’re a complete beginner or simply need a refresher, this course is perfect. With 14 hours of engaging video lessons, homework, quizzes, extra credit materials, and weekly 2-minute recap newsletters, Damon ensures you have everything you need to succeed!

The course is also designed with your busy schedule in mind. With a pacing of 2 chapters/week and a commitment of just 20 minutes a day, you’ll be well on your way to French fluency in no time. As a full-time HR professional, this worked extremely well with my busy 9-5 work schedule. I was able to go at my own pace and squeeze lessons in throughout the week.
Damon also offers a digital workbook accessible through Notion or Google Drive. It allows you to track your progress and review key concepts at your own pace. Notion even has an AI feature that can correct your French grammar or translate words or phrases you don’t understand in seconds.
At the end of every lesson, find the key points summarized when you see the word “Bref”.

Another unique feature is the incorporation of AI to practice your French. Damon provides many useful prompt ideas that you can use with ChatGPT to enhance your pronunciation and conversational skills. This is personally one of my favourite add-ons to the course, as I love the potential AI has to help make language learning more accessible and affordable for language learners.
When you see the words “À Ton Tour”, Damon provides a practice section where you can apply your French knowledge and skills.

Damon will ensure you’re not left scratching your head in a room full of native French speakers. He’ll teach you all about the must-know cult classic movies or the lyrics every tipsy French person will belt out on the dance floor.
His French resource list introduces top-notch language-learning apps, podcasts, and Spotify playlists. Additionally, Damon will recommend some of his most-loved novels and movies that will complement your language journey.
One of my favourite recommendations was a French education television program called Extr@. Extra is a French sitcom filmed in the style of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. and aims to help learners build vocabulary and comprehension.
